BUYER

My name is Nya Childress. I'm a Marketing major with an emphasis in Fashion Merchandising, and I used to be a competitive cheerleader and violin player.

Buying for a major fashion brand has always been an interest of mine, and I am so passionate to learn about the industry. Clothing was one of the only ways I could express myself growing up, and I've always wanted to contribute to the behind-the-scenes atmosphere as a person who can analyze and buy trends for the very companies I admire today!

In my Principles of Merchandising class, I was able to explore many important concepts of a buyer, from learning to do retail math, to analyzing and reporting trends around campus. I moment that stood out especially, was when we acted out as vendors and buyers in class and pretended to negotiate. I learned so much about the relationship buyers have to develop with vendors to ensure optimal success for each side!

I anticipate to use everything I've learned in this class when it comes to my career. The examples and activities we've done in class (such as the vendor/buyer one mentioned above) will be very helpful in real-world situations I will face as a buyer. I can use the tips and tricks learned throughout the lessons. homework and articles in interviews, while performing analytical tasks and while creating strategies for the firm I work for!
